Laser Treatments Q & A

What do lasers do?

Lasers emit powerful beams of energy that can be highly focused on small, targeted areas to treat a variety of conditions, both medical and cosmetic. Different types of lasers emit energy at different wavelengths and frequencies, making them very versatile.

The team at Premier Dermatology Partners® uses the Lutronic Aesthetic laser to treat a broad spectrum of dermatological issues.

How are laser treatments used in dermatology?

Lasers have many dermatological applications, from treating acne to tightening and resurfacing skin, to treating leg veins and removing unwanted hair. While laser treatments may be ideal for many patients, they're not always the best choice. During your consultation, you'll learn more about laser treatments so you and your dermatologist can determine if they’re right for your exact needs.

At Premier Dermatology Partners®, Dr. Berlin and his team use the Lutronic Clarity™, Genius™, eCO2™, and Ultra™ lasers to address a variety of conditions and aesthetic concerns. They routinely perform laser treatments to address:

  • Unwanted hair
  • Fine lines
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Rosacea
  • Leg veins and vascular conditions
  • Age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Loose, sagging skin
  • Face and neck rejuvenation
  • Actinic Keratosis

This list is by no means comprehensive. The Lutronic Aesthetics system is an incredibly versatile piece of technology capable of treating an array of aesthetic imperfections.

How do laser treatments remove unwanted hair?

Lasers, like the Lutronic Clarity, use intense, focused energy to gently heat and destroy hair at its root. Over time, successive treatments can significantly slow hair growth or prevent hair from regrowing altogether. Most patients will have success with three to six initial treatments, followed by follow-up treatments two to six times a year. The number of treatments depends on the amount of laser energy used during each treatment.

Are in-office laser treatments painful?

Most patients do not find laser treatments to be painful, so they don't require anesthetics. However, anyone who has extremely sensitive skin can choose to have a numbing cream applied 30 minutes prior to their procedure.

Laser treatments also do not entail any downtime, so many patients can return to work or their normal daily activities immediately following their treatment.

Tailored to your unique needs, Tetra CO2 laser skin resurfacing works WITH your lifestyle for the radiant results you want but without the downtime you don't.

Tetra Improves:

  • Fine lines to deep wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation & redness
  • Age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Dullness/Texture
  • Dark undereye-circles
  • Lax skin

How does the Tetra work?

The Tetra CO2 removes top layers of damaged skin tissue and stimulates the regeneration of healthy skin underneath. Tetra is a CO2 laser - a proven laser technology for treating deeper facial lines, age spots, scarring and textural irregularities. New collagen is formed and elastin is tightened for long-lasting benefits.

What makes the Tetra Laser so special?

The Tetra is amongst the newest and most advanced CO2 technologies available as it features more operating settings so providers can better customize the intensity, depth and shape of the laser energy. This unmatched versatility means treatments are even and more precise, optimizing results and minimizing side effects and unnecessary downtime.

Who is a candidate for a Tetra treatment?

With Tetra, your provider can customize your treatment to your skin's exact needs. The Tetra can deliver either an intense treatment to reverse deeper lines and wrinkles, with a week or two of social downtime, or a lighter CoolPeel laser peel treatment to refresh the skin with little to no downtime.

When will I see results?

Results and downtime depend on your individual treatment. You should talk to your physician to understand when you will see your desired outcomes and how much downtime you should expect.

COOLPEEL

Who is a candidate for CoolPeel?

You are a good candidate for a CoolPeel laser treatment if you are looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and sun damage, minimize pores and improve skin texture. Your skin will look healthier and younger, whether you treat your face, décolleté, or hands.

How long does a CoolPeel take?

A full-face CoolPeel can take between 5-15 minutes.

Is anesthesia or numbing required?

While there is no need for anesthesia or localized numbing, your provider may use cold air or a numbing cream for additional comfort.

What is a CoolPeel®

CoolPeel is a brand new way to safely and comfortably deliver the benefits of a traditional CO2 resurfacing treatment. By targeting just the superficial layer of skin tissue, damaged skin is removed revealing younger and healthier-looking skin.

What makes CoolPeel different?

CO2 lasers are the gold standard in treating wrinkles, age spots, acne scars and other blemishes as well as tighten skin and balance tone. Damaged skin tissue is removed, or ablated, stimulating new collagen production as heat energy is delivered to tighten the skin. Depending on the depth of treatment, CO2 treatment can be accompanied by considerable downtime while damaged skin heals.

Many advances have been made to improve the side effects of CO2 treatments, but only the CoolPeel can deliver a fully ablative treatment without the downtime. There is minimal risk of hyperpigmentation, demarcation or induced infection.

How does the CoolPeel work?

A CoolPeel laser treatment can only be done using the Tetra CO2 laser. Only the Tetra has the precision and control to deliver energy at the right depth and speed for superficial skin resurfacing results without the lingering heat that would traditionally damage the surrounding skin. This lack of unnecessary heat is where it gets its name and why you get an immediate aesthetic effect with minimal downtime.

What is my recovery time?

One of the main benefits of a CoolPeel is that there is minimal downtime. You should expect to be a little red, as if you have a sunburn, for a day or two, but nothing should prevent you from returning to your normal daily activities. Your skin may feel dry and scaly as it heals so it is important to keep the skin hydrated.

When can I return to my skincare routine?

After your CoolPeel treatment, it is important to keep your skin hydrated and there may be certain products you should avoid. Talk to your provider about the best post-treatment care and when you can return to your daily skincare regimen.

Is CoolPeel only a face treatment?

NOPE! You can get a CoolPeel treatment on other areas of your body where you would like to improve tone and texture, like hands, décolleté, and back.
